Baha’i’s come from all religious, racial, economic, social, cultural, and professional backgrounds.
The Bahá'í Revelation in 1844 issued forth this new Day of God as promised by all the religions of the past. Most of the Baha’i’s in Idaho Falls were not born as a Bahá'í or into Bahá'í families– this is a New Day! Each one investigated the teachings and declared their belief in Bahá'u'lláh as God’s Messenger for today through independent investigation process. Some have been a Bahá'í for more than forty years and others less than a year.
The Bahá'í Faith has no clergy. Each Bahá'í is responsible for praying and reading from the Writings daily to deepen his/her understanding and devotion to God. Bahá'u'lláh has provided a huge body of manuscripts to educate us and through self-study and directed study groups where we learn and grow our spiritual capacities.
In each locality where there are at least nine adult Baha'is, a nine-member institution titled a Spiritual Assembly is elected annually. These institutions administer the affairs of the local community. The Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’i’s of Idaho Falls been elected annually since 1969.
In each country of the world, a nine-member National Spiritual Assembly is also elected to administer the affairs of the country. The National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’i’s of the United States is elected annually. The national offices are located in Wilmette, Illinois north of Chicago.
For the world, a nine-member council known as The Universal House of Justice is elected every five years. The Universal House of Justice, located at the Bahá'í World Centre on the slopes of Mount Carmel in the city of Haifa, Israel, is the supreme governing institution elected to serve the Baha’i’s of the world.
